Server Backup

Create manual structure backups, share them and choose the correct restore mode.

What a backup contains

Server Backup saves supported roles, categories, channels and permission overwrites. Supported channel types are text, announcement, voice, stage, forum and category. Saved data includes supported channel settings and role properties; Discord capability and role hierarchy still limit what can be recreated.

It does not archive channel message history, a complete member roster or integrations. Discord-managed roles are not recreated. There is no backup-preview feature.

Create a manual backup

  1. Open your server workspace and select Server Backup.
  2. Check that the bot is connected and has Manage Roles and Manage Channels.
  3. Choose the create action and confirm the snapshot.
  4. Wait for the progress report to finish before starting another action.
  5. Keep the backup’s numeric ID if you intend to use it later.

Backups are created manually. A server can retain up to three backups. Creating a fourth requires confirming replacement of the oldest backup; the oldest saved snapshot is then replaced.

Who can use backups?

ActionRequired Discord access
View, create, delete or change sharingServer owner or Discord Administrator.
Restore Missing Items on the same serverServer owner or Discord Administrator.
Full Server RestoreTarget server owner.
Import a backup by IDTarget server owner, including when restoring a shared backup from another server.
Review an uncertain jobTarget server owner after checking the server and report.

A delegated dashboard role alone does not grant backup privileges. SHADO5 must be above the roles it needs to manage and must retain its required permissions.

Choose the restore mode

ModeEffect
Restore Missing ItemsRecreates missing saved roles, categories and channels without intentionally deleting additional existing objects. Existing roles and channel settings are largely preserved. Saved permission overwrites and category links can still be reapplied to existing channels to reconnect recreated roles and categories.
Full Server RestoreRecreates or updates the saved structure and may delete additional channels and ordinary roles outside the snapshot. Restores supported settings and permissions, subject to Discord hierarchy and protected roles.

Restore Missing Items also requires a permission-change confirmation. It is not a guarantee that every existing permission overwrite remains untouched.

What Full Restore preserves

SHADO5 preserves its own roles so that it does not remove the access needed to complete the job. @everyone, Discord-managed roles and roles at or above SHADO5’s highest role cannot be deleted like ordinary lower roles. Restrictions or unsupported settings may be reported as issues.

A snapshot is not a way to bypass Discord’s permissions. Review the final report and the actual server structure rather than assuming every object was recreated exactly.

Share or import a backup

  1. Enable sharing for the source backup if another server should be able to use it.
  2. Give the numeric backup ID only to the intended server owner.
  3. On the target server, the owner opens Server Backup and chooses the import action.
  4. Enter the ID, choose the restore mode and read all confirmations.
  5. Wait for completion and review roles, channels and permissions in the target server.

Turn sharing off when it is no longer needed. Backup information may include private channel topics and permission references. Existing member-specific overwrites cannot be restored for members who are absent from the destination.

Progress, errors and safe recovery

Only one backup action can run for a server at a time. A queued or processing action should be allowed to finish. If the bot is offline, wait before requesting another action.

An uncertain result means the final outcome needs inspection. Check the visible Discord changes and the job report; the server owner can acknowledge review when that control is offered. Do not repeatedly restore over an unknown partial result. Changing access, channel permissions or role order during restoration may interrupt the job.
