Welcome & Goodbye

Create welcome messages, farewell messages, private greetings and safe automatic roles.

Four connected tools

Welcome Message sends a public greeting when an eligible member joins. Goodbye Message sends a farewell when a member leaves. DM Welcome sends a private greeting. Auto Role assigns a selected ordinary role to new members. Each can be enabled separately; all are disabled by default.

Join-time protection runs before community actions. A member rejected by account-age protection does not continue through normal onboarding. Goodbye messages skip bot accounts.

Configure messages

  1. Select your server and open Welcome & Goodbye.
  2. Open the message editor and complete the Vote Required check when prompted.
  3. Choose Welcome Message, Goodbye Message or DM Welcome.
  4. Enable that message and, for public messages, choose an accessible text channel.
  5. Choose plain text or Use Embed, then edit the message.
  6. Review the local preview and choose Save Changes.

Public channels need View Channel and Send Messages; embeds also need Embed Links. DM Welcome has no channel selector because the recipient is the joining member.

Message settings

SettingBehavior
Use EmbedEnabled by default. Shows a title, message, color and optional image instead of plain text.
TitleUp to 256 characters. Used for embedded messages.
MessageRequired; 1–1800 characters before variables are expanded.
Embed colorDefault #0081ff. Choose a six-digit color with the existing picker.
Show avatar / Show member countEnabled by default; include the member avatar and current server member count in the embed.
Mention user / Ping userDisabled by default. Permits a mention of the individual member, not everyone or role mentions.
Allow DM WelcomeEnables the separate private welcome message; edit its content on the DM Welcome tab.

Message variables

VariableReplacement
{user}Member display name.
{user_name}Discord username.
{user_mention}A member mention when Mention user is enabled; otherwise the display name.
{user_id}Member’s Discord ID.
{server_name}Server name.
{server_id}Server’s Discord ID.
{member_count}Current member count.

For example, Hey {user_mention}, welcome to {server_name}! uses the joining member and target server. The local preview uses your account as a sample; an actual event uses the member who joined or left.

Background images

Upload a PNG, JPG or JPEG of up to 2 MB, no more than 2048 pixels on either side and no more than 2 megapixels overall. PNGs must be standard non-interlaced 8-bit RGB or RGBA images. If an exported PNG is rejected, re-export it in that format or use JPEG.

Replace Image selects a new upload. Remove Image clears the selected image; save the configuration to persist the change. Uploaded images are publicly reachable by their URL, so do not upload private material.

Assign a safe auto role

Choose a role on the Welcome tab and enable Auto assign role. SHADO5 needs Manage Roles and must be above the selected role. Managed roles, @everyone, the active verified role, roles authorized for dashboard access and roles with Administrator, Manage Server or Manage Roles are excluded.

Auto Role acts on future joins; it does not bulk-assign the role to existing members.

Preview, save and reset

The preview is local only and sends no Discord message. Saving applies the complete Welcome & Goodbye configuration. If another moderator changed it while you were editing, reload the settings before making your change again.

When a message or role is missing

  • Confirm that the relevant message or Auto Role toggle was saved as enabled.
  • Check channel permissions and whether the selected channel still exists.
  • Check the bot’s role position and whether the auto role became privileged.
  • A member may have closed DMs; SHADO5 cannot force delivery.
  • Check whether a protection feature rejected the join before community messages could run.
